Digital design can successfully exist as many diverse visual vehicles but the purpose remains the same - to communicate a message. Fraction of the Sum

A piece, a sliver, a fraction. We are all pieces to make something bigger together. Community, love, coming together. In my illustration for Fraction of the Sum, I contemplate what it means for the self to be part of something bigger - with just a dash of math along the way. We are all just a fraction of the sum.

Beauty In The Vibrant Form

Navigating the appreciation for what it is that builds the form, I was drawn to circular imagery to resemble molecular structure. The use of organic B.C. nectarines is brought to attention with the label’s prominent illustration.

That’s What [WE] Said

An annual journal publication from the Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies Department at University of British Columbia

Cover art by Liz Ranney

Centring around a chosen theme every year, the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Department accepts student submission for each issue of That’s What [We] Said which is then transformed into a publication that is shared both digitally and in print. Submissions range from essays, prose, paintings, illustrations, collage and audio pieces.

What began as a modest format adjustment grew into a thorough layout and design project for three full publications over the course of three consecutive years.

The University of Calgary Student Radio Society (CJSW Radio) is one of Calgary’s only independent media outlets and is Calgary’s only campus & community radio station.

Based on campus at the University of Calgary located on Treaty 7 land, CJSW operates as a non-profit society with a small team of staff and a large dedicated volunteer base. CJSW broadcasts over 110 music, spoken word and multicultural programs in more than 10 languages on 90.9 FM, online at cjsw.com, and podcasted on iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play.

introducing SURVIVORS, an award-winning podcast produced by cjsw

“The residential school system remains rooted in Canadian history, but its effects continue to ripple through the present and future.

The residential school system ran across Canada from 1883 to 1996. Throughout its lifetime, over 150,000 Indigenous children were removed from their homes, stripped of their cultures and forced through a system created to destroy their senses of identity. The lasting negative impact of the residential school system continues to devastate communities of survivors.

This is Survivors: an eight-episode podcast, made in partnership with CJSW and the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage, providing insight into the lived experience of residential school survivors and their families. Produced by Grace Heavy Runner, Cameron Siferd, and Jasmine Vickaryous, the project prioritizes Indigenous perspectives.”

For this podcast I had the privilege of creating all the visual assets and a zine to accompany the episodes.

cjsw Funding Drive 2020

As CJSW’s Digital Media Coordinator during the summer of 2020, I had the opportunity of designing not only the Funding Drive logo, but as well as a myriad of promotional content.

This content was displayed throughout Calgary during the Funding Drive week of October 23rd-30th, 2020.
In addition, this logo was printed on mugs, shirts, sweaters, and pins for donation Incentive Swag for the station.

The logo I created was printed on t-shirts and crewneck sweaters from Calgary’s Local Laundry. It was also printed on mugs, the Friends Card, and an enamel pin.
These items serve as an incentive to donate to the Funding Drive, and a ‘thank you’ to all donors. Once the production of these items was complete, I photographed them for the CJSW website.

a vital component of Calgary’s art & music scene

Prior to the cancellation of the Sled Island festival in 2020 due to COVID-19, I served as their Design Assistant to create social media ads and other promotional materials.

After the cancellation I was contracted to illustrate and design ‘The Lemonade Stand’ campaign, as well as the ‘Keep on Sleddin’ campaign.
