CINIC Studio was created in 2018 by interdisciplinary artist Blake McLeod
My name is Blake McLeod (they/them), I am the Creative Director and founder of CINIC Studio. To me, the act of making is medicine. It helps me process and understand my ongoing healing journey, while also sharing with others through expressive means. After working with other organizations and agencies and being burned one too many times, I needed somewhere that felt safe and limitless for me as a creator, and CINIC Studio was born. What was once a small operation has since grown into a larger production effort, other team members are brought on for projects when the budget allows.
I work in a variety of mediums in my own practice and with clients and collaborators. Connecting visuals, words, and concepts through drawing, writing and illustrating. Digital design of publications, creative texts, and promotional branding materials. Capturing expression, experience, light and composition through photography and videography. Producing images, words, and colours for clients and my own reflections with screen printing, zines, and prose. Storytelling is the centre of it all - sharing the experience and reaching a hand out to say “you’re not alone, I promise.”
With CINIC Studio, I weave together techniques, experiences, and learning to share with others. I value working with collaborators and clients that demonstrate a confident sense of ethics while being open to conversation and learning. I wish to demystify this professional creative realm as I make my way through it, in the hopes that it can create a safer path for those near and behind me. I ask questions in hopes of better understanding, I want to create a feeling of “you belong” because it wasn’t something I ever felt. I wish to gift the knowledge I wasn’t given in hopes of others feeling more confidence to create.
I love collaborating with fellow artists, performers, and clients to write, design, plan, produce, and edit ideas into reality. Fuelled by an avid desire to dismantle the scarcity mindset surrounding professional creative projects, I centre the importance of listening, learning, and creating paid opportunities for my peers whenever possible.
I wears many hats of specified skill which includes but is not limited to; screen printing, writing, digital design, photography, videography, musical performance, DJing, and workshop facilitation. This varied proficiency allows me to not only be a resource of information that can be instructed and shared, but also to champion the importance of collaboration between artists.
If one person can do so much on their own, just imagine what we can create when two or more aligned minds come together? If you have a project you’d like to collaborate on, I’d love to hear about it!
Screen printing
is a large part of how I work with others - careful production, transparent breakdowns, and creating and printing custom designs. Live printing is an exciting direction that has appeared in the last year with the purchase of a Ryonet 1 color, 1 station press.
Photo + video
I revel in capturing moments, playing with colour, building compositions, and sharing a feeling. Shooting live performances of drag, music, and art. Planning and producing video while also building working relationships with camera operators and editors in the community.
“Blake McLeod offers promotional services but goes beyond “selling” your brand to telling your story. Blake creates a safe environment for their clients to be authentic and vulnerable so they can capture the core of each unique individual’s personality, passion and purpose.”

I believe that we are all responsible for moving forward from yesterday in a better way. Without action, this notion of constant and continual growth can easily become shallow optics instead of meaningful movement to better connect us.
I aspire to continue my journey of unlearning harmful bias and behaviour to implement healthier ways to live and create. To advocate for the many ‘others’ who are not seen, heard, or considered in any real way. Nothing ‘for’ us without us.

With Tea Fannie and K-Riz after their Live Session Performance on Them Fatale
May 23rd, 2023.
Them Fatale was my radio lovechild to connect and create representation with my 2SLGBTQIA+ & QTBIPOC communities.
Them Fatale was an award winning (OUT LOUD: Best in LGBT+ Programming, the National Campus and Community Radio Association) radio program dedicated to highlighting systemically erased creators and building community.
We're here, we're queer, and to all of the listeners out there - I promise you are not alone. This program was broadcast live on Treaty 7 Territory at the University of Calgary Campus, on CJSW 90.9FM.
This program aired live from September 2020 - June 2023 and was sponsored by the lovely folks at Velour Clothing Exchange.
